The school was established in 1978 in Taman Jurong. Its crest is in the shape of a comet blue kite that were formed from the initials of the school, 'Y' and 'A'. The white is a symbol of purity and brightness, while the blue represents honest, modesty and humility.

In 2003, the school merged with Merlimau Primary School and Jurong Town Primary School to form Lakeside Primary School
