The interweaving initials of the school name, 'Y' and 'H', symbolise the united strength and effort in the pursuit of excellence. The varied lines signify the many opportunities the school opens up for students as they strive for success.
The school was one of 24 built under the Public Works Department's Third School Building Programme. It opened in January 1986 in temporary premises before it moved into its new premises in Jurong West in April that year.
In 2019, the school merged with Shuqun Secondary School while retaining its name and premises. Its crest was also replaced.
