A cartoon drawn by architecture students from Singapore Polytechnic. This was published in RUMAH, the journal of the Society of Malayan Architects, in the September issue, Volume 4, across pages 50 to 51.
According to one of its creators, Wee Chwee Heng, such free association drawings were usually done over a night when the students hung out. These "commentaries" ranged from critiques of local architecture, complaints about student life and even gossip about lecturers.
"You get four people sitting around a table, it was a graphic of an idea. We just draw it. If I say something, I draw my part, he will draw his part," he said. "Whatever we talk about, we jot down."
In this cartoon, a building with a Chinese roof makes multiple appearances and is heavily criticised ("I'm not in China! I wanna get out of here!!"). It is likely to be the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry building which was officially opened in 1964.
