Rangoon Road Secondary School was established in 1967 for students in both Chinese and English streams. As its crest suggests, the school offered courses in Art, Science, Technical and Commercial subjects.

It was the 95th school built by the government in a term when the focus was on growing vocational institutes and technical training schools. This may explain how the different subject icons are encircled in a mechanical gear.
