Incorporating the international civil defence triangle and the initials 'CD' for 'civil defence' were created for this government-backed organisation to educate and prepare Singaporeans for national disasters and rescue work.

The equilateral triangle in the logo was originally blue in colour, similar to the international civil defence sign that symbolises its three main areas: fire safety, first aid, and rescue and evacuation. The initials were in red.
