Titled ‘Lion’s Courage’, the logo represents Singapore's strength of will and unity. It has five bold strokes symbolising the ideals depicted in the five stars of the National Flag: Democracy, Peace, Progress, Justice and Equality. The number “56” is embedded in the logo design, to recognise Singapore's 56th year of independence.
The design was conceptualised by Nanyang Polytechnic student Tan Yun Xin who beat 45 other entries. She was inspired by the Lion Head Symbol introduced in 1986 and wanted to inspire Singaporeans to come together during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was further developed into a brand identity by creative agency BLACK.
