The company was founded in the late 1950s. It was renamed on 1 July 1973 from Sing Koon Seng Welding & Mechanical Works to Sing Koon Seng Pte. Ltd. By then, it specialised in building tug boards, log carriers, oil tankers, supply vessels, barges and steel structural works as represented by its ship-like logo made from its initials. The shipyard was located at No. 3 Benoi Road in Jurong Industrial Estate.

In 1985, the company went into receivership and was bought over by Chung Wah Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. of Hong Kong the following year.
