The restaurant was started by C.Y. Tang in 1963 with its first outlet at Bras Basah Road. In 1966, it moved into Liat Towers and also opened a coffeehouse.

The renovation of Liat Towers in 1977 led the coffeehouse to move to Clifford Centre, while the restaurant was relocated to the 43rd floor of the DBS Building. Troika also opened a branch at Shing Kwan House. In 1979, a new outlet was opened at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre. In 1983, the chain was sold to Hotel Tanglin Pte Ltd after its owner decided to retire. Three years later, the restaurant shuttered because of the recession.
