One of three major manufacturers of matches in Singapore, Central Match was set up in 1969 and originally known as Singapore Safety Match. By 1973, the company reported making 800,000 to a million advertising match boxes monthly for hotels, coffee houses, restaurants, clubs, airlines, shipping companies, motor companies and cigarette manufacturers in Singapore.

It also started creating 1,500 cartons of "art" match boxes such as this that depicted local scenes because there was a craze to collect them in the 1970s.
