To commemorate its fiftieth anniversary in 1970, Lee Wah Bank donated a sum of money to produce matchboxes for the Singapore Association for the Blind to promote "Blinday" on 22 August.
The association was formed in 1951 to advocate for the blind in Singapore and demonstrate how to prevent eye diseases which caused 75 percent of blindness in the British colonies. In 1987, it was renamed Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped to more accurately reflect its community as not all of them were totally blind. The term also better reflected the association's wish to fight against the social handicaps faced by its members.
