The cafe and bar opposite the former Hilton Hotel (now renamed Voco) was known for being one of the liveliest spots along Orchard Road. It served European, Indonesian and Chinese food.
Although this matchbox advertised that it was air-conditioned, many remember Ban Chuan for its tables that spilled out to the sidewalk and was popular among both tourists and locals.
The restaurant closed in the early 1980s.
