The Singapore National Dance and Theatre Company was established after the successful outing of a troupe of amateur local dancers to the Adelaide Festival of Arts in 1972. Its founding arts director was Mr Francis Yeoh.

The cover designed by artist Choy Weng Yang features poses from Singapore's different dance cultures and uses similar techniques he employed in works such as stamps for the Festival of Sports in 1970.
