United Engineers was founded in 1912 from the coming together of Riley Hargreaves & Co and Howarth Erskine & Co. It started as an importer, supplier and manufacturer of heavy industry equipment. After the Second World War, the company became a major player in the shipbuilding and ship repair sectors as well as the contractor of major building projects such as the Old Supreme Court, OCBC Centre and Cavenagh Bridge.
The advertisement promoted United Engineer's commitment to progress and was published in The Straits Times Annual.
