In 1973, Singapore's biggest and oldest food and beverage manufacturer, Fraser & Neave, opened a restaurant complex inside the National Stadium in 1973. It consisted of the Champion's Kitchen coffeehouse, the Olympic cocktail lounge and a Chinese restaurant, 新運樓.
The complex's interior decor was by Johnny Johnson. Champion's Kitchen had a spring green atmosphere which extended from its interior to its waitress uniforms. It offered international fare ranging from European to Muslim meals.
