The restaurant on the first floor of the hall was officially opened in 1966 by businessman Leon Kwon Yan. Its success led him to open the Golden Crown Restaurant and Night Club a year later.
After it was used for the Commonwealth Heads of States conference in 1971, the restaurant was closed for a nine-month long renovation at a cost of over $200,000. It re-opened to offer its dim sum as well as a new specialty, coconut chicken.
