The company was incorporated in 1963 as the Singapore Land & Investment Company. It was renamed the Singapore Land Limited a decade later. The public-listed developer built various commercial offices in the city-state's then emerging financial centre including Singapore Land Tower, Clifford Centre and SGX Centre 2.
Under the chairmanship of Nanjing-born entrepreneur S.P. Tao (Tao Shing Pee), the company became known for iconic projects such as The Gateway by American architect I.M. Pei and Marina Square by John Portman and Associates.
The company was acquired in 1990 by United Industrial Corporation Limited. In 2021, it was rebranded as Singapore Land Group and the logo was replaced.
