A biennial competition started by Sin Chew Jit Poh to raise the graphic design standards in Singapore. The Chinese language newspaper had organised a graphic competition as early as 1973, but only revived the event again 1978/79.
The prize-giving ceremony was held on 28 February 1981 at Sin Chew Jit Poh's Promotions Centre. The prizes were given away by Sidek Bin Saniff, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Culture. There was also an exhibition to showcase the winners.
