In September 2005, Zouk closed for a month to refurbish the entire complex. The S$7-million upgrade included works on its facade and all its outlets: the main room, Velvet Underground, Phuture and the Wine Bar.
The design appropriates similar signs used to announce upgrading of public housing estates in Singapore. It also marketed the final weekend of events before its closure.
