Islandwide radio paging services were first introduced to Singapore in 1973. The idea was for subscribers to carry a pocket-sized device that would buzz when contacted. By January 1974, some 170 of the 250 pagers introduced had been taken up by doctors, engineers, shipping executives and salesman.

This brochure from the mid-1980s showcases the paging services on offer in Singapore then, which included a Single Number Automatic Paging Service, a Dual Number Automatic Paging Service and a Display Paging Service. Subscribers could choose from various rectangular-shaped pagers that came in different colours as well as features such as silent alert. There was also a premium pen-size model, which was likely based on the Motorola Sensar Mercury launched in 1983.

While the brochure offered the pagers only for rent, users were expected to buy them by February 1987.
