This entertainment building was opened in 1968, specifically to boost Singapore's night life scene. The Singapore Tourist Promotion Board approached property developer Shaw Sung Ching to create this four-storey entertainment complex located at the junction of Orchard and Scotts Road.
Though it was named Tropicana, it actually housed four establishments. A theatre-restaurant Orchid Lantern, a restaurant-nightclub Rasa Sayang, a cocktail lounge Le Bistro and a VIP lounge.
Amidst fierce competition from other clubs, Tropicana closed in May 1989. The building was demolished and replaced with the shopping complex, Pacific Plaza.
