Public Works Department

Public Works Department

Consisting of a building, bridge and road, this symbol depicts the main aspects of this agency in charge of developing the buildings and infrastructure of Singapore. The department was formally established in 1946 and in 1964, this symbol was unveiled as a sign to be displayed at all of its work sites. A competition was launched among PWD staff and the "best and most significant symbol" was selected. The red and white colours are similar to Singapore's State Flag.
